Ilan Eshkeri’s new ballet Narcissus and Echo premiered last night at Sadler’s Wells. In collaboration with renowned dancer Sergei Polunin and esteemed artist David LaChapelle Ilan has adapted this mythological story through music.
‘The Story of Narcissus and Echo is all about repetition and miscommunication. When words and images become unreliable, more abstract forms of communication are called for. Movement and music are not as easily definable, but they connect on a deeper level, allowing for greater emotional understanding. This seemed to be the most powerful way to tell a story at once so simple and so complex.’
